Post-Secondary Education Fairs in Ontario

Aliyyah Nazeem | September 14, 2018

For international students, it can be intimidating to choose a post-secondary institution in Canada. One way to make the process easier is to do your research. Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be a big ordeal. You can simply attend a post-secondary education fair.

In this article, we will look at Ontario’s post-secondary education fairs to give you an idea of the many benefits of attending one of these events. However, if you live outside of Ontario, you can find options like these across Canada.

Ontario’s Post-Secondary Education Fairs

In Ontario, there are two large fairs for prospective students:

  • The Ontario Universities’ Fair (OUF)
  • The Ontario College Information Fair (OCIF)

Both these free events cater to individuals who are interested in attending post-secondary institutions in Ontario. Attending these fairs is often easier than traveling to look at several different colleges on your own time. During these events, you will have the opportunity to meet with recruitment and admissions staff, teaching faculty, and current students. By talking to these school representatives, you can learn more about the school you are interested in attending. You can also learn more about your major or program of study.

What to Expect at the OUF

This year, the OUF will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from September 28-30, 2018. This is a good option for international students who would like to attend an undergraduate program in Ontario. Representatives from several schools will be available all three days to answer your questions about the admissions process. You can also find out more about student life on campus and what you will learn during your course of study. Additionally, each school will host presentations about topics that they believe will be useful for incoming students.

What to Expect at the OCIF

This year, the OCIF will be held at the Enercare Centre on Exhibition Grounds on October 23-24, 2018. At the OCIF, you will learn which college programs will prepare you for the career you are interested in. Then, you will learn how to apply to those programs and what the requirements will be to succeed in the program. You will also have the opportunity to speak with faculty and current students. Plus, you can attend sessions to learn more about topics that will make your college experience better. Topics include: how to pay for college, what degree programs are available, and how to transfer credits in Ontario.

In Conclusion…

The purpose of post-secondary education fairs is to give prospective students all the information they need to make informed decisions. You might be deciding where to apply or where to attend; either way, you will find useful information at these events.  However, if you are unable to attend one of these events, you can learn more about your local schools by attending an open house event or scheduling a campus tour. Before you go, visit the school’s website for more information.
